The next morning, the Governess and Lockwood go swimming. The Governess asks Lockwood how he's doing, and Lockwood tells her that he hasn't yet learned how to swim, but that he'll learn soon enough. Lockwood tells him to keep his hips up and his body straight as he swims, and the two begin to practice kicking and swimming. Lockwood says that the water is flowing through the pool, and he hopes that the splash will help him learn to swim faster. He's glad to see that they're having fun, because they were worried about him, Lockwood says, and that's why they were so worried about each other. He tells Lockwood to go ahead and get a shower, and they'll be fine. Lockwood is glad that they had fun, and says that seeing them having fun put his mind at ease, because he was worried that something might have happened to him in quarantine.
