The narrator introduces himself as "new normal" . He tells us that he's just turned 17 years old, and that he and his friend, Hata, have been living together in the same boarding school for two years. Hata tells the narrator that she's been quarantined for catching a cold, which she thinks is weird at this time of year. She also tells him that she caught the cold because she and her friend took off their masks together. She says that she hopes that the rest of the quarantine will go by as uneventfully as she and Hata have. The narrator says that it feels like they're sleeping together.
