The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which the narrator explains that he is now a "girl friend" of Seiji's, and that he has been spending his time at his boss's place. The narrator feels that she is slowly getting used to being a friend of the boss, and he is beginning to get nervous. He tells us that he wants to tell the boss how much he loves him, but he is afraid to tell him because he feels that the boss is becoming a "pervert" . He asks the boss if he can have coffee, and the boss tells him that he should take one, if he likes, but the narrator says that he would have known that it would be a nuisance, and so he apologizes for sharing it with the other employees. He then tells the story of how the boss used to be cold and direct, but now he seems to be more popular, and people are able to tell things that he was not able to say before
