When the scene opens, the Governess is in her office outside of her perfect boss's office. The Governess tells the reader that she has been waiting for her boss to reveal his true feelings for her. She tells the audience that he has asked her to think about the "severity" of the kiss and to imagine how she feels about the kiss. She then asks the reader to imagine what her reaction would be if she were to kiss the man she loves.
