The scene opens in the office of the "perfect boss" , who is outside, "perverting what we have not love" . The narrator laments the fact that he cannot "reach out" his hand to the boss. He says that even if he did, he would not be able to reach him. He then leaves a note for the boss, explaining that he has gone home to wash his clothes and to return them to his wife. He tells her that he does not mind that he ended up going home because he feels "gruesome" for some reason. He asks her if she would like to hear the boss whisper that he is "gish" because he is tired. She replies that she would rather hear him whisper that she is "such an idiot" and that she will carry her home. She then tells the boss that she wishes she were a "ms" and asks him to stop bothering her any more. He responds that she probably caught a cold and did not get enough sleep. She tells him that she has a slight fever and that he should go home the day before. She asks him what he should do.
