When Miss Jessel comes out of her room, she is surprised to find that she has been "stealthily fucking" her boss. When she realizes that she is being flogged, she tells her boss that she will be going out with him. She tells him to hold off on seeing her face because she needs to tell her boss how flush she feels. When the rector steps out of his room, he tells her that he is sorry for the delay, but he is just so happy she has invited him out. He tells her to kiss him, and she does just that. She says that she would like a hug, and the rector says that he would like to kiss her as an apology. When he hears her saying this, he presses his lips to hers.
