"Sweet night" is the title of this chapter's epigraph, and it's the first time we get a sense of what it feels like to be in love with someone. We're also introduced to the narrator's "big brother" , whose name we're told is "itsuomi" . The narrator tells us that he's going to borrow his big brother's car so he can meet up with his friends at school the next day. The two of them decide to meet up after they get off work, since they're both going out for a drink. But the narrator doesn't want to get swept off his feet, so he tells her that she'll have to keep her distance from the guy she's hanging out with. He's not going to let her get "swept off her feet" by a guy who's already out. He tells her to listen to him when she talks to him, because he'll be talking to someone else. He says that she can't listen because she has "ear buds" in her ears, which are supposed to be hearing aids. She's worried about her petite friend, and she asks him if he'd like to kiss her before he leaves. He agrees, and they kiss before the narrator leaves.
