This chapter's epigraph is from a speech delivered by Tanikaze, a member of the Samari squad, who has just returned from a mission to the cluster ship. He tells his superiors that he is terrified of the ship, which is only three years away. He says that he will have his weekly lunch in a cafeteria district, where he will be able to catch a glimpse of the "lesser cluster ship" which is much faster than the one he saw before. He also says that the capsule containing the placenta is the first capsule that a gauna has ever created that is perfect in every way. He adds that he would like to see a human like him in the capsule, but that the gauna will have to rethink their tactics because they rely too heavily on the use of particle cannons, which are not recoil-free and can easily strip away a person's body. He warns them that they should not rely on these cannons too much, as they are also a source of energy for the enemy. They should also be careful not to let the enemy get too close to the capsule because the capsule is covered with lightbulbs, which reflect the attack. He concludes by saying that it was not easy for him to obtain the capsule.
