This chapter opens with the uncle of the Luo family asking his son about his relationship with Ran. He is shocked to learn that Ran is sixteen years old, and that Ran and Luo have known each other for only a short time. The uncle tells his son that Ran's relationship with Luo is "purer" than a friendship between a child and an adult. He then asks his son what he should call Ran in the future. Luo replies that he should address his uncle as his uncle, since he does not like being called his uncle. In order to avoid being recognized, Luo zhan asks Ran to distract his uncle while he goes upstairs with his servant, yang yilan, to get some things. Ran tells his uncle that she used to live on the same floor as Luo, but that they only knew one another for a short period of time. When the uncle tells him that he is going to see his girlfriend again, Ran says that she thought something had happened to him and that he scared her to death. She hugs Luo's robot and tells him to hug her. When he is shocked, he lets her hug him. She then hugs him and says that he "scared me to death"
