The chapter opens with a conversation between Luo and the other students. Luo tells the others that he feels guilty because he reserved a seat in front of the class so that he and his girlfriend would not have to be separated. He tells them that he is so busy at the lab that he only meets two, three days a week. He says that he does not want to hear rumors that they are breaking up. He asks if the girl's family will allow her to be married to him anytime soon.
