About This Chapter
The scene opens with a soliloquy by Luo Ling, a student at Renmin University in Wuhan, China. He has just returned from lunch with another student, and he is shocked to find that the other student has written a note to him asking him to reconsider his relationship with his senior. He is also shocked to learn that the note has been written by the other students in his class, who have threatened to destroy him if he does not comply with their demands. He does not believe that he is being threatened, but he does believe that the students are trying to take him away from his side. He feels that he should not be afraid, as he has never been so scared before. He asks the student why he is giving him his university and salary card, and the student explains that this is a contract between him and his employer, and that he will keep the card. He promises to bring the two of them together that evening at 8 p.m.
