In this scene, the king and his son discuss the events that have taken place in the palace. The king asks his son what has happened, and the young man replies that he has acted on the king's orders. He says that he is grateful to the king for his help in getting his daughter married, and that he hopes the king will feel the same way. The young man tells the king that the traitorous rajendra has thrown in his lot with the parsians and that if he had not gotten in his way, he would have defeated them easily. He also says that the eldest son fought as his father's tute in order to prove that he was not a traitor. He adds that if the king had not fallen into his coma, the prince would have become the king. The two men agree to settle the matter in a duel, which will be decided by the loser of the duel.
