In this chapter, we learn that Aramis is not the rightful heir to the throne, but that his half-brother, the king's son, is. The king has assembled a large army to fight against Aramis's army, but Aramis says that the army will fail because it violates the "time of the heavens" . Aramis, however, says that he will defeat the army for the "highness" of Aramis. He adds that he would like Aramis to capture Aramis for the safety of the kingdom. Aramus says that his highness is too self-assured to be jealous of his own talents and abilities. He says that if Aramis were to lose his letter, the kingdom would be in trouble.
