This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the Governess, who is trying to cheer up her friend, Historia. She's worried that he's been in a bad mood lately, and she wants to cheer him up by telling him a joke about how he can't use a vertical moving machine because he has a bad dream. The Governess doesn't want to make fun of her friend's bad mood, so she suggests that they leave him alone for now. She tells him that the best thing to do is to exercise, and he agrees. He also tells her that they should put some flowers in the room to brighten it up, since they're so pretty. He then tells her to eat the flowers, but she refuses to eat them, saying that they look like they need to be dragged around in a cup. She then tells him to stomp stomp stomp on the flower, which he does. She says that he looks like a "darker, colder person" than he does, and that he should have stomp stomped on the flowers instead.
