About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator tells us that he's been "really busy" . He's signed all of the documents he needs to sign, but he doesn't have time to do any more work. He tells us he'll be working "all-nighter" , which means he won't be able to sleep. He asks if he can work next to him, and he says no, because it's more fun to be with someone who's doing the same boring work you're doing. The narrator says that his work has been "hit a wall" thanks to the "hanger effect" : he can't concentrate on anything but his work, and the hanger effect makes it harder to concentrate on the task at hand. He tries to get some coffee from the other guy, but the guy is too stiff and stiff-talks him into taking some sugar or milk. The two of them talk about how they're the only two people in the room, so they can have some alone time. The other guy asks if the narrator is looking at his research, and when the narrator says he isn't, the guy says he was looking at someone else's research the other day. The guy asks the narrator if he put his pen on him the day before, and then the narrator asks the guy if he thinks the man is looking for him.
