He also wants to know why the emperor doesn't come inside to talk to him. He says that he needs to get out of the house when it's still warm so he won't freeze to death. The weather is getting colder, he says, and he can't even feel the chill in his heart. He wonders if the weather is a message from God, or if the emperor's coldness is a sign of his love for Dong. He asks if there's ever been a "smile" on Dong's face, and she says that there hasn't been one in the whole time she's been away from him. She also says that she'd never bring Dong back if he were to bring her back.
