This is a locked chapterChapter 10: Ghost House (6)
About This Chapter
Kate wakes up in the middle of the night and tells herself that she's going to have to lead her to the truth. She's been living in the house for 70 years, and she knows everything about it. She wants to know why anyone would want to live there, especially a young woman who doesn't want anyone to help her. She also wants to find out why she even thought she was a decent person, since she'd never want to help anyone else. She begs anyone who hears her to come and save someone, and then she goes on and on about how two murders in the newspaper caught her attention, and how she was forced to live with the scarlet ghost until she killed herself. She then tells the story of how her neighbor's visit made the ghost lose control, and so she stayed at the house to fight the ghost. She tells him that it's okay for him to hate her, because she told him the truth so she could be truly free. Kate tells the ghost of her murdered neighbor that she created the ghost, and he'll lose his mind if he goes on like this. Kate is so upset that she cries out, "Hold on! I'm coming!" .
