About This Chapter
The narrator is shocked to find that no one has shown up at the lab today. He wonders why the hanging robot is still there, and wonders if it's the one that eats people. The narrator also learns that a skeleton was found in the basement of the lab two years ago, and that it has unusual scars on its skull. He speculates that the skeleton might be Dr. Robie, who has been missing for some time. He concludes that the skull is missing a third of its eyebrow, which means that it must have been craniotomy performed on him. He also surmises that it is the skeleton that killed the machine and killed the skeleton. He is horrified to learn that someone has made a batch of "penetrating dishes" for human brains in the lab, and all the staff members have gone missing. They are not robots, but human brains are locked up in the boxes. The client lied to the narrator, saying that their father had only disappeared a month ago.
