About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's going to be watching the guy all the time. He wants to know what his name is, what his profession is, and when he'll be able to sit in a wheelchair and eat through a straw. He's also going to make fun of him when he sits in a penitent and eats through straw. The narrator says that he can't leave the house because his dad has to go to work. He also says that if the rumors are true that he will run for president, then he'd like to thank the people of the United States for giving him a dollar. He says that everyone is holding a dollar at this point, and he wants to thank them all for their kindness. He tells the narrator that he broke his last sales record, that his book is "pure fire," and that he has no one to thank but himself for his genius. He adds that the women love him and want to make him a movie, and that his latest royalty check is nine figures. He asks the bartender to give him a drink while everyone else is working, but the bartender says no, and the narrator thanks him for holding onto the boxes of food that he brought with him. The bartender says that the pepper spray makes the guy angry, but he doesn't want to use it to do anything.
