The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Enos. Enos complains that he never sleeps and that he's always moving. He's a "diesel-fueled turbine engine" . He tells us that there are two types of people: those who sleep like a "damn carrot" , and those who just "sleep like a vegetable." Enos says that he finished his comic book pages and is going to get some of them from his buddy, Jeff. He says that his roommate is a "fucking genius" and that the town is "sucks" because it's "cold out." He also says that the police are there to protect Enos when he gets promoted to a manager at the bar, when Brian gets his first gig at a "bar on sunset," and when Omario continues to live on "rice and tap water," even if it means that he has to "live on the rice and tapwater."
