In this chapter, we learn that Mr. situ is the magistrate of the city of Nanzhou, and that he is the boss of a man named Xingyi, who is a member of the zhenge, or witch, clan. When he questions the man about his origins, he is shocked to learn that the man is actually from the Liaozhou district, where his real boss, Prince quan, has been living for decades. When the man asks how he knew that his boss was the prince, the man explains that when he mentioned the prince's name, fear was aroused in the man's eyes, and he knew he had the right shot. The man also reveals that his wife can fill in whenever the head of the department is away, which is why he is allowed to break up with her whenever he wants.
