The next morning, the Governess wakes up to find that she has had a nightmare in which she sees the ghost of Ling-Liu. The Governess tells her that he was once a member of the gang that kidnapped her, and that he and Ling-Lieu made a pact that they would escape together, but that they never did. She asks if he looks like him, and he says that he does. She tells him that he is very jealous of her.
