In this chapter, we are introduced to Cai Ling's new boss, who is about to launch his new product. Cai Ling tells him that he is too busy preparing for the launch to worry about his former boss. He tells Cai Ling that he has no time to discuss the matter with him, and that if something happens, he will have to go back and hide the fact that Cai Ling is the one who is responsible for the incident. He asks Cai Ling if he would resign if he were given the chance, and Cai Ling replies that he would not, since he is not capable of handling such a situation. He says that he wouldn't go to work without changing his clothes, but that if he did, he would have to do so in order to thank Cai Ling for his concern. He adds that he wishes to go find Cai Ling and comfort him. He explains that he used to think that people who didn't speak a lot were indifferent, but now he realizes that they are just like gold. He also says that the voice recorder pen is missing from the company's cctv system, so he will go and look for it. He will find out who it is, and then he will tell Cai Ling the truth.
