About This Chapter
It's been a while since we've heard from the narrator, but he's back. He's got a message for his father: he wants to know what's in the bottle of cologne that's sitting on the counter. He asks his father to tell him what it is, but his father won't tell him. Turns out, it's a sample of another perfumer's perfume, and the perfumer thinks that the winner of the competition will probably be the one who smells the cologne. So, the narrator tells his father, he'll have to tell the truth about the scent, which will ruin the whole company. The narrator's still not sure what to make of his father's behavior. He doesn't want to be a perfumer anymore, and he'd like to give up. He wants to quit right away, but the narrator reminds him that he has to record all of the previous advertising and promotion campaigns in order to keep up with the latest developments in the world of advertising.
