About This Chapter
In the second half of the first half, the blue team is leading the red team by 10 points. The director tells Fatty that he can't continue the game because of his leg injury. Fatty sends a car over to the hospital and tells the doctor that he's going to have to stay in the hospital for ten minutes. The doctor agrees and tells Fatty to go home. Fatty says that if he had controlled his diet in college, if only he had made the free throws, and if only they had won the middle school game, he'd be back on the court. He says that he and his dad made a bet that they'd stay together forever, and now they're back in the final. Fatty and the director head back to the cafeteria, where they replace the stretcher with a dining cart. Fatty wants to continue playing, even if he breaks his legs. He's been waiting seven years for this moment, and he wants to win. He wants to give back the jersey that he lost to Fatty in the first game. He also wants to prove to his dad that he could be a great center if he wasn't so injured.
