About This Chapter
In this short scene, the Governess tells the audience that she does not want her daughter, Ayon, to go through what she went through in Tokyo. She wants her to know that she can make her daughter happy. The Governess then asks the audience to believe in Ayon's ability to overcome obstacles. She says that she is jealous of her daughter's father and her family, who worry about her. She also says that her father died eight years ago, and she wishes that she could go back to her family and be with them. The audience is surprised to hear that she has been raised to be honest, and that she would like to be able to visit her family. She asks if she can stay for three days, to give her parents "some peace of mind." The audience wonders who came by on New Year's Eve to see her, as she had just returned from Japan. She tells him that she came home early because her father was mad at her for coming home so early. He said that she should do whatever she wanted. He also said that he would kill her if she did not do what he wanted. She then asks if he was on his own, and he replies that he was, too, because he did not know how to live without her
