The narrator tells us that he's been looking at the siblings of the Xu family, and that they look just like the ones he grew up with. Apparently, the young master is very fond of his sister, and he wants to have a dance with her. The narrator says that the purpose of the banquet is to "let people gossip" . He says that he and his sister grew up together, but they didn't get along as best as they did, so they'll have to dance together later on. He also says that it's strange that he hasn't been able to dance with his brother yet, but he'll be able to do so later. He's worried that his sister is trying to "pull on" him, but doesn't want to mention it. He asks if his father is going to propose to him, and his brother says that his father has not yet mentioned it to him. He tells his brother that he won't let anyone force him to do anything, but that as long as his sister refuses to dance, he will let her do whatever she wants. He then asks if she's really going to dance her first time, and she says that she'll do it. She tells him to "tap this bastard" and "put your hand down" , and says that if someone sees what happened to her hand, it will be a "very scary sound." She also tells him not to make promises, because she can arrange to have some time to hang out with her after the banquet, if he wants.
