This scene opens with a soliloquy by Lucentio, in which he tells the audience that he wishes to save shengqi. He tells them that he has already given them the potion that will make their wishes come true, and that it is up to them whether or not they wish to use the potion. He says that if there is something that they want, he will take it back.
