In this short story, we learn that the old woman, who is referred to as "aunten zhi-geng art," is still working as a governess. We learn that she has just returned to school and that her son, "xuan bai," has successfully returned to his studies. The old woman wonders why "second master cheng" didn't mention this to her when she was about to present him with the report of the child's progress. She tells us that the child looks exactly like the old man when he was younger, and that the college is preparing to host a competition for the top students in the country. The two students are too weak to compete with the other students, and therefore, they have been assigned a training instructor to help them prepare for the competition
