The narrator returns to the station to tell Lin Xiumin that he has come all the way to see him. He tells him that after a sudden sandstorm, Lin and Xiaopang spent five days together, and the two of them had "the best time of their lives" . He asks Lin to come back with him, but Lin says that he can't because he's still needed in the station. He says that if he met someone better for him than him, he'd just dump him. The narrator leaves the station and looks down on the desolate land. He feels that what he has seen here is "very meaningful" , and he asks himself if he would wait for Lin if he were him.
