In this short scene, Deryn tells the audience that she feels very appreciated when she is able to use her strength for others. She tells us that she is a little girl and that she wants to be validated by others. Deryn says that she cannot move her hands at all. She will protect him. She says that he can switch off this off now. She asks him if he is still able to think that he is weak. He says that if he says so, then he will not let her give up before the contract ends. He tells her that he will continue to protect her. He asks her if she still wants to eat him, and she replies that she does not want to eat half of his life because of her stupidity. She then tells him that he cannot kill her because she is bound to him in the contract.
