In this short scene, Lady Dedlock attempts to teach Alek how to read and write. She tells him that he must memorize all of the books in two days or else he will have to take a practical exam to prove that he is "qualified" to be her babysitter. Alek, however, refuses to take the test, saying that he does not understand what he is being taught.
