This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which Roxane and the prince from the south meet in secret. Roxane tells Roxane that she has poisoned the sleeping prince, and that she will marry the prince's heir. The prince, however, is not interested in marrying Roxane, and so he leaves the scene.
