The scene opens with the servant of the king, the swordswoman of the bonfire clan, Miss Leila, asking the king's wife, Miss Fuyuhina, if she thinks she can marry the princess of the south. The king asks her to continue their discussion, and she says that she will, once she makes a decision. She tells the king that she has gone to check on the body of Mr. lark, and he has died of "a clean kill" caused by "a frontal attack." The king says that he went to check the body, and the princess tells him that she is now the head of "the lark clan." She says she will not marry anyone for her life, and says that if she were the princess, she would make the same choice. She promises to arrange everything for her.
