About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the girls are going to a team retreat in the middle of the summer, which means that they'll be away from school for four days, and that they won't have any practice until the following week. This means that, if they fail the test, they can't go to the retreat. The girls are bummed about this, since they're supposed to be taking remedial classes in order to pass the test. They're also bummed about the fact that they don't know how to play the game of basket ball, since it's their birthday on August 7 . Umeki, of course, is psyched about the team's coming-of-age party, but he's also worried about how he'll get better at the game since he hasn't practiced much. He's worried that Umeki might have broken up with his girlfriend because he was worried about losing his "love" for her, which would mean that he'd still be in love with her. Okay, so Umeki doesn't really know what's going on here, but we're guessing that's because Umeki's not in the mood to play with the girls, and because he has a crush on a girl named Aoba, who's just turned 21 . Uh-oh, umeki, you're worried about Aoba's feelings for Aoba? Umeki says that Aoba is "practicing alone" , which sounds like Aoba has something going on, but Umeki isn't sure what it is, since Aoba seems to be "panicked" about something, and Aoba just wants to get back to playing the game he loves, which is basket ball
