About This Chapter
The narrator begins this chapter by saying that growing attached to something is the "beginning of the end" . He then goes on to say that when you start liking something, you'll end up hating that thing. He says that this is why he likes basket ball so much, because he likes his team mates. When he hears that he's quitting the team, the narrator says that it's normal to stop liking something. He doesn't understand why his father and his father's going to be splitting up. The narrator then says that he always wanted to talk to him about aoba, but he can't tell his father about it anymore. He's moved by a bakery that sells something he'd been looking for for a long time. It's not sweet or soft, he says, but "my favorite lunch in elementary" was "french toast that was firmer and not sweet." The narrator feels that she's been searching for "years" to find this kind of thing. When his father welcomes him home, he asks if he enjoys his job managing the basketball team at his sister's house. He also asks if his sister enjoys her job at the listening house, and she says that she does. He asks if they like each other, and they both say that they do. He tells his father that they have a game for him to go to, and he says he'll forget what he said the day before.
