About This Chapter
The narrator tells the story of a girl who wants to go watch the girls' basketball team. She tells the narrator that the team is super cool, but the girls can't really hear her because they're so quiet. The narrator says that he's going to try to share his problems with someone, and that's how he'll become a better person. He tells the girl that he works at a shady listening place, and the girl thanks him for his help. The girl says that she's in her first year at high school, and she wants to become a shining example to her classmates. She asks the narrator to change into her school uniform quickly, so that she can become more like him. She says that her aunt runs the listening place and that she ended up getting the job there. She thanks the narrator for all of his help, and he says that it's a good thing that the narrator isn't around the age of her, because he'd be too scared to talk about his problems. He says that the man who came here was a meaner, but that he didn't make a mistake. He's not sick of basketball, he says, and is going to tell the team's super visor about it the next day before practice. He doesn't know how to ask any questions, and this place won't listen to his problems either. He asks the girl why she needs to leave her school early, because she'd like her to leave early for her family's reasons. She's like, "Hey, I need to leave my school early for my family reasons." The girl gasp
