In this chapter, we meet the new manager of the basket-ball team, who is trying to get to know a boy better. He's worried that the boy doesn't know that he's a girl from the "listening house" , so he has to "speak loud and clear" to him. He also worries about the boy's lack of interest in the girl, because he thinks she's plain. The boy is impressed by the manager's enthusiasm, and the two begin to talk about the future of the team.
