About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to a time when the narrator was in school. He was studying the cost of raising a child. He realized that it would cost 30 million yen per child to raise from birth until adulthood. The narrator tells us that Chihiro gave him a notebook with a list of all the things he had to memorize in order to be able to play the game. The notebook is full of notes that the narrator has written down every time he has played the sport. He tells the captain of the school that he is not going to go to the game tomorrow, but that he will come back the next day. The captain tells him that he has to practice his mock exam today, and Chihiro tells him to be cheerful. Chihiro also tells the narrator that ryoichi is on his way to the school, and that it is not the captain's fault that he hasn't been able to attend the game that day. He says that the captain has done a good job in training the other players, and he praises the captain for his reliability. The girl asks the captain if he will forgive her if she tears up in front of him, and the captain says that he'll do so if she asks him to. He then tells the girl that if the girl had a card with her name on it, they would have gotten off the train sooner, and she says that she would forgive him if he would do the same for her. She says that if he did that, he'd forgive her, too, but the captain tells her that he doesn't think that she meant to do that. He explains that the notebook is like his entire soccer career packed into one little package. He asks if the captain is going to play in the game, and if he's going to tell the girl who she is, and what she's been doing, and how she
