In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named Louis, who has just returned from the war in the Middle East. He is a handsome young man, and we are told that he and his friend are in the middle of a game of basketball when they are interrupted by the sound of someone knocking on the door. This is the first time that we have heard the girl's name mentioned in this chapter. The girl wakes up and tells the teacher that she has lost her homework and that the note has been stolen. The teacher tells her that she is too stupid to remember the date on which it was stolen and that she should not worry about it.
