In this chapter, we are introduced to Mr. Lorry, the flower shop owner, and his assistant , Mr. Hargaiya. The two of them are discussing the flower arrangement that Lorry has made for his apartment. Mr. Jarndyce suggests that the arrangement should consist of a main flower, a supporting flower, and perhaps a third flower to represent each of the three elements of the arrangement. He also advises Lorry to pick the main flower first and then the supporting flower as a way to bring the whole arrangement together. He tells Lorry not to over-think the arrangement and to do what is right for her. As Lorry contemplates the arrangement, he realizes that he cannot stop thinking about Harga's voice.
