About This Chapter
The Governess is worried about her son, who hasn't been home in a while. She's worried that he's going to fall in love with someone else, and she wants him to stop flirting with her. She tells him that she's not going to divorce him, because she likes him. He says that he doesn't want to divorce her, because he likes her, and he'll forgive her for it. He's sorry that she didn't have the guts to dump him, but he'd forgive her again if she'd just come back to him. The girl is crying, and the Governess can't understand why. Apparently, the girl broke the two of them up, and they're both going out. She says that the girl's friend was the one who broke them up. She also says that her friend's heartbreak was the same as that of the girl and the boy, and that she wants to protect them both. She asks if the girl really likes him, and if so, why? The girl says that she does, but that she feels uneasy because of her "kindness" , which makes her feel uneasy. She wants to be kind, she says, because that's what she always wanted to do. She knows that the man she chose was kind to her, too, and wanted to be someone who would save "peculiar women" like her.
