This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between gautier and marc. Worried that pelagio has been trying to trap them, the group decides to go swimming in the river below. They're going to kill a bunch of pagans in the process, and they don't want to do it in a public place. They decide to split up the group and search the room for any evidence of witchcraft. They can't do anything about it, though, because there are cages of people in the room. The first thing to do is to kill the pagans.
