About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the assassins have been trying to get word from Pompey about what he has seen and done to him. Pompey is in the streets, as if he has been bewitched. He has no idea who has done what to him, and the assassins think that they are the ones who have done it. Pompey tells us that he has to follow him to the tower of the palace, where he will be able to tell the pope what has happened. He also tells Pompey that he must return to the residence of the innocent. Pompey asks where he is going with this mission, and Pompey tells him that he can procure a weapon that will ensure victory. Pompey says that he is not well-versed in the sciences, but he knows where to find a man they need. He says that they will be ready in four months. Pompey reminds him that there is one more thing that must be done before he can go to the palace. He tells Pompey to not let Pompey get away.
