"My boss is an enormous monster" , says the narrator. He's not sure what to make of his boss's behavior, but he's pretty sure that she's a "monster" . He tells her that he doesn't have feelings for her, because she and her husband are in a political marriage. He blames himself for everything that's happened to her. He says that if he hadn't done what he did, she wouldn't be in her "posi tion" right now. She'd be "dumped," he says, and his life would have been "a mess." Ouch.
