In this chapter, we learn that jiu-sheng has rented a room for himself and his friend, and that he has given the room's owner a necklace as a reward for opening the door. Worried about his friend's health, he decides to go to the room and find out what's going on. When he finds out that sheng-sheng is drunk, he wants to stay with his mommy, but he can't find her anywhere. Unsure of what he's doing, he asks if she's in the party, and she tells him that she is resting downstairs. He asks if there's anything wrong with her drink, and he learns that it contains hallucinogens.
