About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he hates Ruby because she's always scheming and teasing him. But he also longs to be like Ruby, proud and strong. He says that he doesn't have any feelings for her now, because he's doing "labor punishment" right now. The narrator says that Ruby is trying to find "faults" in the tea, but the tea isn't from the west forest, but from the east forest. He's wrong, he says, because the tea is from east forest, not west forest. Ruby says that they're doing a "role-playing trial" of a waiter, and that the role is to give people a "temper of a queen" . Ruby tells the narrator that the man who came in to talk to her was just a lowly waiter. Ruby apologizes, and says that she thought the man wanted to experience their role-playing, so she thought he'd be a perfect butler. She says that the school anniversary is coming up, and she'd like to visit her cousin, the older cousin of Ruby's, who's an orphan. She's just an "amnesiac" , she says, and the whole family is orphans. Ruby thanks the narrator for saving her money by hiring actors to play the role of the waiter.
