Caruh, England. The 1880s. Chapter four childhoods. Caruh asks what his son is doing there. He says he's writing a silly book and wants to know if Damien and Desdemona like it. Damien says she's too thin to eat a pastry, but Caruh tells him to eat it. He tells her that his son wants her and Damien to go to Paris with him and his brother to show off their new clothes. He's going to see her, but he doesn't want to tell her what he wants. He just wants to see if she likes the story. He wants to find out if she'd like to be a part of it. She sighs and says that she'll be glad to see him, but then she pauses. She says that her son wants to be the muse of the story, so he can steal her heart back.
