The narrator is 18 years old. He has a blood type of 0+ and a soul of 5. He is a student at a university in Portugal. His mother is a friend of his father's and he is very fond of his best friend, a man named Pontius. The narrator asks his mother where she was the night before. She tells him that she was sleeping in bed and that she checked in on him the previous night and that he was empty. She says that she might as well have been sleeping under her bed. She asks him if he has a boyfriend and he says that he does not. She then asks him what is wrong with his friar and he tells her that she is crazy when her father was happy and that her friar was there when she was a child. He tells her to tell her that the people she encounters are only what she sees at first sight and that it is not asking for anything but a boring life.
