About This Chapter
The narrator has one hour to decide whether he wants to live or die. He's not sure what he'll do with his life, and he feels like he's been whipped out of the window by the winds. He doesn't know what the author's urn is, and the narrator is confused about how to catch a banshee. The narrator is overwhelmed by the news that his brother-in-law, dane, has killed his friend, dagny. He thinks that he'd like to die with her, but he knows that there's so much more to life than that. Aj leaves the narrator alone in his garden for a bit to reflect on some of his questions. He asks why troia didn't meet him at the flower-shop, and why there was a "nice little boy" who met him on the other side of his garden. He also asks why there are contradictions in the garden, like the fact that rooms are larger than they actually are, and that there are "creatures of power" who serve the castle. He finds a giant tub in his closet, filled with stuffed animals, and wonders who's in it.
